Director of Talent

Location: Cincinnati, OH (preferred), or Chicago with 25% travel
Status: Full-time, exempt
Reports to: CEO and Chief of Staff

About ReGeneration Schools

ReGeneration Schools is a nonprofit school management organization that runs outstanding urban schools that close the opportunity gap through a college prep and character mission focus. ReGeneration serves over 1,600 students in historically underserved neighborhoods in Chicago, IL, and is launching an elementary campus in Cincinnati, OH, for the 2019-2020 school year. We plan to grow to three elementary and three middle schools in Cincinnati over the next 5-7 years, serving over 2,300 students and changing the narrative about charter schools in Ohio.

The Director of Talent will manage a 3-4 person Talent team (including 2 Associate Directors) and reports to the Chief of Staff, Elissa Klein, and Chief Executive Officer, Stacey Shells. The Director of Talent is a member of ReGeneration’s Leadership Team and will lead the development and implementation of the recruitment strategy for Chicago and Cincinnati. This leader’s ultimate goal is the attraction of high-performing teachers, leaders, operations, and home office staff to join our organization.

The Director of Talent will join ReGeneration during a time of change and expansion. We seek candidates with a proven track record of attracting high-performing and diverse staff, and who believe in our mission to ensure that all children have equal access to a high quality, college preparatory education.

The Director of Talent’s core responsibilities are provided below.

Develop, Execute, and Refine Recruitment Strategy

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive strategic plan to attract high performing and diverse talent for ReGeneration Schools in Chicago and Cincinnati
  • Build robust and diverse talent pools at all levels of the organization
  • Assess, leverage, and ultimately, streamline the organization’s recruitment tools and systems (e.g., applicant tracking systems, complex spreadsheets, external job boards, and social media ads) to meet recruitment goals
  • Fully utilize data and analytics to improve organizational talent practices and forecast short and long-term recruitment decisions and adjustments
  • With support from Associate Directors, ensure beginning-to-end integrity of entire life cycle of recruitment process, from job description to hire
  • Work in tandem with Human Resources (HR) to
    • (1) provide oversight for all HR responsibilities for Chicago and Cincinnati staff, which include but are not limited to: benefits administration, hire letters, retention and compensation strategy, employee policies, and HR systems and policies; and,
    • (2) offer compensation guidance for all staff members across all schools and ensure compensation is aligned with ReGeneration’s values and fairly rewards team members

Team Management and Development

  • Manage and develop a Talent team of 3-4 people, including Associate Director direct reports; ensure a strong and inclusive team culture and achievement of ambitious annual outcomes connected to recruitment.

Communications and Partnership Development 

  • Demonstrate and articulate a thorough understanding of ReGeneration’s mission and vision, and communicate enthusiastically to candidates the benefits and merits of working at ReGeneration and its schools.

  • Unwavering belief in ReGeneration’s mission to ensure that all children have equal access to a high quality, college preparatory education  
  • Bachelor's degree 
  • At least five years of progressively responsible work experience in recruitment
  • Successful work experience in a high-performance, fast-paced entrepreneurial environment, with a high volume of staffing (at least 60 openings annually) is preferred
  • Teaching experience is a plus 

Travel: 25% if based in Chicago; nearly all of that travel would be to Cincinnati, which is approximately 4.5 hours away by car, 1 hour by plane.

Compensation and benefits: Compensation is competitive and commensurate with experience. We provide a comprehensive benefits package, which includes medical, dental and vision, life and disability insurance, and a matching 403(b). We also offer a generous time off policy, with paid school holidays and breaks during the school year, plus additional days to be used throughout the year.
